How to Sport Stripes

Majority of our lives, women have feared the dreadful horizontal stripes. We’re constantly told to not wear them because they appear to make you look larger than you are. Striped shirts have been a staple in women’s fashion for quite some time now, it’s origins however come from somewhere least expected; Fisherman residing in the northwest region of France! One of the reasons for the stripes comes from fisherman believing it would aid them in spotting men who had gone overboard. In 1858, the French Navy adopted this nautical theme as their official uniform. The great Coco Chanel later embraced this staple piece featuring the pattern in 1917, which ultimately led to an infinite amount of ways that these sailor stripes could be worn, and behold the fluidity and simplicity that are stripes.

Styling this trend is simple and doesn’t require much and there’s no need to feel self-conscious of rocking this look out. I chose my favorite tee from J-Crew (that I cant stop wearing) as my go to statement staple. It’s lightweight, funky and I’m obsessed with the checkered sleeves! The tee already has enough presence, which makes it a piece of cake to style with some boyfriend shorts.

Mules seem to have made it big, and are my go to on how to make an outfit look cool while still looking at ease. Paired with my navy blue Balenciaga bag and I’m ready to set sail!
